EDITOR: This concerns the Close to Home on Sunday by Joan Cooper of Friends

of Shollenberger Park (”Send Dutra to the dump, really”).

It’s ironic that Cooper and the Sonoma County Conservation Action, Madrone

Audubon Society, Sierra Club Sonoma Group, Petaluma Wetlands Alliance and

Petaluma River Council — seeing the handwriting on the wall regarding the

controversy — endorse locating the plant ”Close to Home,” my home.

Don’t think that you’re doing us homeowners near the central landfill any

favors suggesting the dump be used as a new home for an asphalt plant. We’ve

been putting up with the dump, recycling center, hazmat center, composting

operation, traffic, smell, dust and noise here for years. Great idea, bring in

an asphalt plant, the neighbors here won’t notice.

I have supported these organizations in the past and contributed to some of

them. I don’t recall any of you asking our opinion about locating the plant

here. I do recall Sonoma County Conservation Action coming around a week ago

to collect donations. I guess we look like fools to you. No more, you’re as

bad as those you rail against.
